Evaluation
Evaluation for the grade nine course is divided into two distinct, yet equally significant sections. The student receives a grade which indicates his/her proficiency in the Overall and Specific expectations as evaluated using the Achievement Chart (Knowledge and Understanding; Thinking and Inquiry; Communication and Application). The student will also receive a level of competence in Learning Skills, including effort, work habits, ability to work with peers and so forth. Both areas will be evaluated for each unit of study and both will be reflected separately on the midterm and final report cards.

Evaluation Components
*Course evaluation (70%):
Writing: (Novel studies, expository writing, news reports, and reflective journals)
Term Work: -Performance Tasks: (Tests, quizzes, and poetry anthology) -Oral Presentations: (Novel study presentation, poetic devices, poetry recital)
Final Summative (30%):
ISP: 15%
Final Exam: 15%

All categories of the Achievement Chart (Knowledge and Understanding; Thinking and Inquiry; Communication and Application) are evenly weighted for each component of the course evaluation
Please consult the Dr. Denison English Department Policies for specific details regarding Learning Skills, Assignment Due Dates and Plagiarism.
