The ENG1P
course is designed to help prepare you for the challenges
and demands of the College and Workplace stream at Dr. Denison
Secondary School The emphasis is on improving your reading
and writing skills, your critical thinking skills, and your
ability to work both independently and co-operatively. Follow

and webpage.
The theme of the GradeNine English course is "Overcoming
Adversity" Through each unit, students
will explore how various people (as individuals and within
the context of larger cultures and communities) face adversity,
and then consider how this shapes their perspective.
Evaluation:
All evaluation is guided
by the four categories of the Achievement
Chart for students in Grade 9 and 10 English:
Knowledge, Thinking, Communication and Application. Assessment
is recorded in the following categories:
Term Work (70%)
- Term Writing (40%)
- Term Work (30%)
Final Assessments (30%)
- I.S.P. (15%)
- Final Exam (15%)
The students will also receive a level of competence in the
Learning Skills, including effort, work habits, ability to
work with peers, and so forth. This area, along with the student's
academic performance, will be evaluated for each unit of study
and will be reflected separately on the midterm and final
report cards.
