Welcome to the
Dr. Denison S.S. Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)
Site. On this page you'll find links to pages
which offer some direction in preparing for the Literacy Test
and pages which offer a range of literacy support. We've also
included information about the range of Reading and Writing
Tasks that are typically included on the test and a number
of practice exercises to help you prepare. Please remember
that this year's test is ONE day, so the format and content
of the test will vary significantly from year's past.
The Literacy Test is a measure
of literacy skills achieved by students across the spectrum
of subject areas from Grades 7 to 9. It is NOT an "English
Test". For a link to the Grade 7-9 Curriculum Expectations
which are "measured" by the test, click HERE.
Please note that the OSSLT
Literacy Test administered by EQAO is one measure of literacy.
Every year there are very literate students who "fail"
the test for a range of reasons aside from their "literacy
level". If you do fail the test, there are supports in
place at Dr. Denison Secondary School to ensure that you receive
the necessary support to pass the test or its equivalent,
the OLC40 course. Talk to your English Teacher if you have
any questions.
