This English course will
help prepare students for college entry. There will be an
emphasis on writing (letters, opinion pieces, and persuasive
essays) and a focus on appropriate speaking skills (class
discussions and presentations). Also, students will complete
three novel studies, which will provide them opportunity to
use multiple intelligences in various assignments related
to each novel. Students will keep these assignments in a portfolio,
and at the end of the semester will select their best work
to complete a final I.S.P. assignment and presentation. This
course should enable students to come to a better understanding
of self, challenge their own perceptions of who they are,
and help them have empathy and understanding for people and
characters regardless of time, place, or circumstances.
