Welcome to ENG3U:
The ENG3U course is designed to help prepare you for the academic
challenges and demands of post-secondary education. The emphasis
is on improving your writing skills, your analytical skills,
and your ability to work both independently and co-operatively.
Our course has two major sections.
In the first half of the course, we will focus on the history
of poetry and literature from the Middle Ages to the Modern
Era. In the second half of the course, we make a shift to
the genres of gothic and science fiction. In both halves of
the course, you will be asked to write an in-class essay,
participate in group presentations, and complete tests and
journals. You will find information for these Units of Study
by clicking on the buttons to the left of this page.
Evaluation
You will be evaluated in this course for both TERM work (70%)
and FINAL summative activities (30%). For both TERM work and
FINAL activities, your grade will be based on your abilities
in the following categories: Knowledge, Thinking, Communication,
and Application. These categories will be clearly indicated
and evaluated on each assignment.
You will be evaluated based primarily on the following major
assignments. You will be expected to show solid work habits
throughout the course. In order to receive this credit you
must submit work towards each of these activities:
Written Work (40%)
Chaucer in-class essay, Sonnet Test, "A Modest Proposal",
Frankenstein Journals, Frankenstein Test, Macbeth Essay, Book
Club Novels Work Diaries
Performance Tasks (30%)
Chaucer presentation, Sonnet presentation, Major Poetry presentation,
Frankenstein seminar, Macbeth presentation, Course Review,
smaller quizzes and activities
In-class ISP Essay (15%)
Final Exam (15%)
