Congratulations to Mr. Parrott’s Grade 9 Canadian Geography classes and members of the GeoClub for adopting one of our community waterways currently under pressure from development.
The Adopt a Stream-Crossing Program run through the Earth Angel Program and is intended to enhance forest cover and habitat in and around streams at Regional road crossings by involving adjacent landowners and/or nearby schools or community groups in maintenance projects. These tasks involve pickup of litter, debris and garbage, clean-up of creek beds, and the naturalization work which includes tree and shrub planting.
Denison’s naturalization site is on the Green Lane allowance and flood plain, south of the stream- crossing which originates from our Denne Bush and the Dorchester Stormwater Management Facility/Pond (see below).

This environmental project is a long term commitment for the GeoClub as future stewardship on the north side of the Green Lane is being considered with landowners permission.
Many thanks to the York Region Forestry Department and the York Stewardship Council for funding this worthwhile project. This partnership provides many valuable learning experiences for students and assists in the greening of York Region.
Stay tuned for updates as the “Adopt a Stream-Crossing” Program unfolds.
