Environmental & Resource

           Management
                                               (University/College)

Students will study a number of Environmental and Resource Management Issues.  They will come to appreciate the complexities of our natural environment and the importance of understanding the significance of human interaction with the environment.

A key concept in their analysis will be that of sustainability; sustainability of economy, sustainability of society and sustainability of the environment.  Without all three we cannot maintain quality of life.  Problem solving and planning systems will be introduced as we try to consider all three areas simultaneously.

The course will have a positive outlook; looking for solutions and promoting action rather than wallowing in dispair.

Some of the issues students will be studying are:

Tropical Forest Depletion: looking for solutions
    Soil Conservation and Sustainable Yield
    Protection of Endangered Spaces
Greenways for Newmarket and York Region
    Forest, Stream and Wildlife Management
    Global Warming
    Waste Management
    The Impotance of Wetlands
    Aquatic Environments
