Policies
ATTENDANCE
1. Regular attendance is the basis for success in any programme. Students
are responsible for all class work, tests and assignments given during any
absence. Please see a fellow student and your teacher to verify all work missed.
2. If a student is absent the day of his/her oral or group presentation, the
teacher must be notified prior to 8:00 am that morning, or a mark of 0 will
result.
3. If a test is missed with an authorized absence, the test will be written
upon the student's return. Unauthorized absence will result in a mark 0.
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
4. Respect is essential for all learning. Respect for your teacher, for your
classmates and for the classroom.
Be respectful in the manner in which you speak, be attentive in class and
do not disrupt the lesson.
5. Arriving to class on time is a positive work habit that is essential for
the workforce. Do not come late to class.
6. As indicated in school policy, no Discman / iPod, telephones, food or drink
except water are allowed in the classroom.
HOMEWORK and STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
7. Daily completion of all readings, homework, and course assignments is
essential for success in all courses.
Homework will be checked throughout the semester. Lack of completion of homework
will reflect in achievement on tests and assignments and in poor evaluation
in the Learning Skills section of your report card.
8. To succeed, you will have to be responsible for your own learning. Time
management is the most important learning skill to master. Use of student
agenda planner to enter deadlines, budgeting preparation time for major assignments
and completing homework when classes are missed are essential learning skills.
9. Be sure to seek extra help when you are unclear on instructions or coursework.
I am always available to help you.
ASSIGNMENTS and DUE DATES
10. Wise students record and track all marks during the semester. Do not throw
away anything returned to you.
11. All assignments have a due date. Students who have not completed the assignment
by the due date will receive a mark of 0 until the assignment is completed.
Parents will be notified of any incomplete work. Expect to be sent to the
office and have detentions until the assignment is submitted.
12. If a student has been legitimately absent for an extended period during
a major assignment or Unit test, a parent phone call and/or note is expected.
Always consult your teacher!
ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION
13. All major assignments will be formatively assessed to provide input for
improvement. This is of great benefit to your final mark. Be sure to submit
assignments for early assessment.
14. All major research-based assignments will be submitted with a bibliography.
Any essential assignment will
be submitted in hard copy as well as either on disk or electronically, as
specified by your teacher.
15. The learning skills of Initiative, Work Habits, Team Work, Working Independently
and Organization will be assessed throughout the course.
16. Avoidance of plagiarism is a serious responsibility. All student process
work will be collected with all assignments. Any student who plagiarizes all
or part of another writer's work will receive a mark of 0 for that assignment.
• Parents will be contacted throughout the semester if necessary. Parents
are encouraged to contact the school to speak to the teacher if there are
any concerns.
