Canadian Civics CHV20 2004 CITIZENS WHO HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE You will be assigned 1 person or group - Canadian or international- who has been involved in taking action in the community - either local, national or international. Research 1. a) The origins or background of the person or group eg. dates, where, education, or circumstances of the group's founding The goals and reasons for the involvement eg. Is there an issue? Is there a mission statement? The methods used to achieve these goals eg. speeches, campaigns, lobbying government, internet, etc. The achievements and contribution to the community eg. awards, goals achieved, difference they have made, etc. Report 2. Prepare an 800-1000 word report that includes all of the above information. Headings may be used for the four topics above, but proper sentence and paragraph structure must be followed. 3. The report may be hand written or word-processed. Your last section must argue why you believe this person or group is, or is not, a good choice for an "Ideal Citizens Award". 5. When statistics or quotations are given, imbedded footnotes must be used. The last page of the report will be a Bibliography. This must be in proper format and include all sources use. Display 7. On a given day set by the teacher, all students will bring in a visual display that illustrates whom you researched. 8. This display will include a) a title b) reference to the background, goals, methods and achievements of the person or group. c) a statement on why they are/ are not an "Ideal Citizen" Photos, diagrams, statistics, etc. Anything that will show clearly to the viewer an insight into this person or group's citizenship qualities.
