Canadian Encyclopedia

 Full access to the most current issue of this encyclopedia. This is a great place to start Canadian research.

 

EBSCO Host

EBSCO Publishing is the world’s most prolific aggregator of full text and abstract journals, magazines, newspaper, reference and other sources. There are 6 databases to choose from and all have sub topics within. The Kids Search and Searchasaurus links are appropriate for elementary level students and/or ESL. Secondary students should be using the first link; Student Research Centre (grades 9 &10) and the EBSCOhost Web (grades11&12) .  EBSCOhost Web allows you to choose the database most suitable for your research needs and is especially useful for Senior students as scholarly journals can be requested.

Knowledge Ontario

Knowledge Ontario is a NEW FREE database resouce for all Ontario Schools. It is powered by GALE Group, a leading competitor of Ebsco and offers much the same info as above but gives us access to many specialty databases that we could not otherwise afford. Check out the Philosophy, World Religion, Law, Science and other great databases.

This is a database that includes many collections. Collections include, Canadian Women's History, Colonial Government Journals, Early Official Publications, English Canadian Literature, History of French Canada, Hudson's Bay, Jesuit Relations, Native Studies. New documents and collections are constantly being added.

 

Grolier Encyclopedia

User name: chalk     Password: board

Full online access to 6 online encyclopediae. The list includes The Americana Encyclopedia, the Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, Lands and People, Grolier Encyclopedia, The New Science and a Spanish Encyclopedia. Students may choose one source or type their search in the first search window and let the product search all six encyclopediae at once.

Opposing ViewPoints Resource Centre

OPVRC is an American database of issue related topics. This database outlines the two the most current and popular sides of controversial issues. Some topics may have an American bias while others will be larger  in scope.  Check out the Research Guide for great tips on dealing with controversial and ethical topics.  The Toolbox has informative "How To" info.

 

Statistics Canada

Stats Canada offers two databases of Canadian statistics and research information. The link here is the "public" site.  Educational facilities also have access to the "private" site by clicking on the Educational Link from the main page. Use of this site, known as E-Stat requires a username and password.
