Notes must come from a minimum of 6 sources [encyclopaedia, book and articles]. 2. All notes must be point form and give the source in bibliographic format at the top of the page or on a library square attached to them. 3. The page number of the source will identify all quotations and statistics placed in your notes. 4. All notes will be categorized in the margin as to your essay topic questions. 5. Highlighted articles do not constitute notes, they must have your notes attached. 6. Notes will be collected and assessed as outlined above to encourage excellent results. 7. On the first day of research a separate page listing all of the relevant sources found for research will be submitted. 8. Research will be formatively assessed as well as evaluated when it is submitted with the essay. BIBLIOGRAPHY AND FOOT/ENDNOTES All historical research must be documented. This includes the alphabetical listing of all sources used for your notes and quotations. The Bibliography is the last page of your essay. A thorough historical paper will also show the source of all references to both primary and secondary sources used as quotations or statistics. These are documented in either footnotes at the bottom of the proper page or as endnotes on the second to last page of your essay. See the separate sheet provided or History Dept web site that explains how to complete both of these. CHART OF QUOTATIONS An excellent historical essay shows that the researcher has consulted a wide range of sources. It will include both first hand accounts (those by people in the time period) and secondary sources (the opinions of writers of texts and those who were not living in the time period.) To practice your identification and collecting of quotations that will be used in the essay, you will create a Chart of Quotations that will be assessed as part of the research process. This chart will be: A separate page of quotations divided into the research questions assigned and primary and secondary headings. 2. 1 quotation minimum for each describe and analyze question = level 3 A variety of all of your research sources will be used. Excellent choices please! Both primary and secondary quotations are provided. Below illustrates the format and ONLY SOME EXAMPLES of the type of quotations to use.
