They will choose a fibre to research. Sign up on the topic list provided. Only one sign-up per topic. Topics: The main fibres we will be researching include: Natural Fibres - silk, cotton, linen, wool, miscellaneous hair fibres. Manufactured Fibres - acetate, acrylic, rayon, polyester, nylon, spandex Note: If all topics are chosen, see the teacher for further topics. Content: Complete the following. Generic and trade names Source of the fibre How is the fabric made (production process) The characteristics of the fibre (advantages/disadvantages) Apparel uses Fabric information - cost range, common blends (This will require some field research). Care and cleaning - create a label that would be suitable for a garment made from fabric with this fibre Works cited and embedded referencing Format: This information will be presented on a bristol board. Use both sides as needed. The project will be presented to the class. Think of ways to be creative. For example, a drawing of a sheep with a care label attached; or a cutout doll with wool garments as an attached label would be effective. Other Information: Your peers will be completing a chart for study purposes based on your presentation. References: Wolfe, Mary. Fashion, Chapter 8. Teacher resources - classroom files. The teacher will review the works cited information. Library research. Deadline: The deadline date will be the presentation date. All students must be prepared to submit their posters on the first date of presentations. It may be necessary to continue the presentations on a second day. Date: ______________________ Working with a partner: It is recommended that you edit your partner's work. The mark earned will be a group mark. In cases where partners do not meet the deadline, it is important to keep a record of the work that each person is responsible for. It is expected that research and written work be completed by each person. Your ability to work as a group member will be evaluated.
