***Music students in any grade who wish to have a leadership role in helping to organize music concerts and activities should plan to attend the first meeting of the Music Council on Friday,
September 8 after school.

Music Parents' Committee:
All parents of Denison Music Students are considered to be members of the parents' committee. This group assists with fund-raising and organization of events in the Music Department. Meetings are on the second Wednesday evening of every month. The first meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 9th at 7:00 p.m. and will be combined with the New York City Tour meeting.
Rental Information
Students in any grade wishing to rent, purchase or lease to own an instrument may do so at the following stores.

Fees and Rentals:
- The costs of running the music program are extensive. Fees assist us in making supplies easily available to students for their use.
- All students in instrumental or repertoire courses must pay a $15.00 music instrument rental fee and a $15 consumable supply fee which covers the cost of items such as reeds, valve oil, swabs etc. (Total=$30---Cash or cheque made payable to Dr. Denison S.S.). The following exceptions should be be noted with regard to course costs:
- Vocal students do not pay an equipment fee .
- Musical Theatre students pay $30.
- Guitar students must provide their own six-string acoustic guitar . Guitar students are not required to pay the $25 fee.
- Keyboard students must provide their own headphones . Keyboard students do not pay the $30 fee.
- Gr. 9 students undertaking a purchase, rental or lease pay only a $15 consumable fee. Otherwise, the purchase of a mouthpiece or the full set of percussion sticks will cost $30.00 (We have purchased them to sell to you.).
- Instrumental students from Grades 10-OAC who own their own instruments pay only a $15 music consumable supply fee.
- Please note that all reeds, oils, swabs, and other supplies are covered with the one-time consumable fee. Note, also, that students taking more than one music course pay course fees only ONCE (i.e. maximum of $30)
Uniforms for Performances:
The following outlines what has been established as the concert dress for the various Denison ensembles. Note that plans are currently underway to have students requiring a white shirt/top to purchase the same garment in order for our ensembles to look more professional at our performances:
- Wind Ensemble students must purchase a band sweater. ($50.00). Students should also purchase black dress pants, white shirt, black shoes & socks to complete the uniform. (Note that most students going into Grade 10 should have a uniform white shirt from last year. )
- Choir members (Denison Singers) will be required to purchase the uniform white shirt/top for performances. Singers should also purchase black dress pants and shoes & socks to complete the dress uniform.
- Paramedics members must purchase a black shirt/top, black dress pants and black shoes & socks. Hoodies and T-shirts will be available for purchase this fall.
- Shades of Gray members will be required to purchase the various components of their dress uniform. Hoodies and T-shirts will be available for purchase this fall.
- Grade 9 Band students wear black dress pants, the Denison uniform white shirt/top and black dress shoes & socks. Note that uniform white shirts will be available for purchase this fall for $20.
- Music Council: purchase a black long-sleeved Music Council T-shirt (subsidized price TBA)
Private Lessons:
Although the Denison Music program prides itself on its highly qualified teaching staff, students wishing to excel on their chosen instrument or in voice may wish to consider taking private lessons. The Denison music staff is happy to make recommendations to students who are interested in private music study and can assist in finding an appropriate private teacher.
