Volleyball
Rules
1. The match starts
with a coin toss. The winner of the toss chooses the court or the serve.
The other team gets the choice that is left. The opposite team serves first
in the second game. If the match goes three games, a coin is again tossed
to decide serve and side again.
2. In a match
a team is allowed two time-outs per game and 12 substitutions.
3. Each time-out
has a time limit of 30 seconds.
4. Substitutions

a player of the
starting line-up may enter the game only for the person who replaced him/her.

a Libero may be declared
at the beginning of the set. This person may enter the court between points
without the consent of the referee. This person can ONLY play in the three
backcourt positions. They DO NOT serve. They must be taken out when
they reach the front court. They can come in for anyone but the person
that comes out, must go back in when the libero comes off the court.
5. Set winner:

The winner of a set
is the team that first scores 25 points (win by two).

A point is scored on
every serve (called rally point scoring).

The first two games
of a match go to 25 points. If a third game is necessary the game goes
to 15 (again win by two).
6. Service
-
the server must stand
anywhere behind the service line when contacting the ball.

The server gets only
one attempt on the serve. They may not throw the ball up and let it drop
and try another toss.

The server must wait
for the whistle prior to serving.
-
The serving team may
not screen - prevent their opponents from watching the server or
the path of the ball.

The ball is still playable
if it hits the top of the net and goes over to the opponents side
7. Ball contacts:
-
Each team is entitled
to a maximum of three contacts to return the ball over the net to the opponent's
court. A block is NOT counted as a contact.

The ball may touch any
part of the body.

The ball must be hit,
not caught and/or thrown.

Double contacts (by
one person) are allowed on the first contact but there must be only one
movement at the ball - you can't hit it purposely off one arm and then
the other.

When two teammates contact
the ball simultaneously, excluding the block, the shall be considered two
contacts for the team.
8. Blocking:

During a block it is
permissable to contact the ball above the net on the side of the opponent
as long as the opponent touches it first and was making an attempt to put
the ball over the net.

You are NOT allowed
to block or attack a serve

Only front court players
may block
9. A player may
step on the centre line but not COMPLETELY over it. No part
of a player's body may touch the opponents court.
10. Back court players
are allowed to spike the ball as long as they take off from behind the
attack line. Their foot CAN NOT touch any part of the attack line.
